    Q:
How to remove and inspect the rear stabilizer bar and bushing on Lexus ES300? Posted by Customer
    A:
Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands, then remove the rear wheels. Next, remove the heat insulator from the exhaust system. Detach the sway bar links from the bar by removing the nut and detaching the link from the sway bar on each side. If the ballstud turns with the nut, use a hex wrench to hold the stud. Unbolt the sway bar bushing retainers from the body by removing the bushing retainer bolts from both the left and right retainers. The sway bar can now be removed from the vehicle. Pull the retainers off the sway bar using a rocking motion. Check the bushings for wear, hardness, distortion, cracking and other signs of deterioration, replacing them if necessary. Check the sway bar links. Clean the areas of the bar where the bushings ride using a wire brush. If necessary, use a light coat of vegetable oil to ease bushing and Li-bracket installation, but avoid using petroleum-based products or brake fluid as these will damage the rubber. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
What should be inspected while the stabilizer bar is detached for the 2005 Lexus RX330? Posted by Customer
    A:
While the stabilizer bar is detached, slide off the retainer bushings and inspect them for cracks, wear, or deterioration. It is also advisable to inspect the stabilizer bar link by flipping the ball joint stud side-to-side five or six times, then installing the nut. Using an inch-pound torque wrench, turn the nut continuously one turn every two to four seconds and note the torque reading on the fifth turn, which should be about 0.4 to 17 in-lbs. If it isn't, replace the link assembly.

    A:
    1. Install the links, tightening the link nuts to the specified torque. 2. Install the retainers and bolts, tightening the bolts to the specified torque.
