To check for excessive freeplay in the steering system, with the vehicle on the ground and the front wheels straight, gently rock the steering wheel back and forth. Excessive freeplay could indicate issues with front wheel bearings, yokes (main shaft or intermediate shaft), lower arm balljoint, steering system joints, or steering gear adjustment. Symptoms of faulty components may include excessive body movement on rough roads, swaying around corners, and binding when turning the steering wheel.

Slide the clamps and boots onto the axleshaft, outer boot first, then place the tripod on the shaft and install a new snap-ring. Apply grease to the tripod assembly and inside the housing.
