The first step to work while handling the power steering pump is to unhook the cable of the negative terminal of the battery. Turn the steering wheel back and forth in its fullest extent several times to evacuate maximum fluid that can be siphoned from the power steering fluid reservoir with the help of a large syringe or suction gun; prepare a drain pan for the fluid spill while disconnecting the fluid hoses. Turn the right front wheel lug nuts on the counterclockwise direction, lift the vehicle, and place it on jackstands, then remove the right front wheel. If needed remove the right front fender apron seal and the liner on the right front. Next, remove the drivebelt. Remove the fluid feed hose from the pump and unscrew the electrical connector of the power steering pressure switch. Loosen the pressure line to pump union bolt and dis-connect the pressure line from the pump with the help of two spanners and make sure that you change all the sealing washers if required. After that, the mounting bolts will have to be unscrewed for the removal of the pump, although the upper bolt is partially disguised but will let go when the pump is removed. In regard to installation, it is recommended to reverse the process of removal when tightening the union bolt of pressure line, and mounting bolts to the recommended torque and adjusting the tension of the drivebelt. Last, replenish the amount of the fluid in the reservoir to the required level, and evacuate the system.
